Personalize Desktop Coaching
Many professionals try to struggle with maintaining, fixing, and upgrading their personal computers and software on their own. We quickly defer tax issues to a CPA, legal issues to a lawyer, or investing decisions to a financial advisor, but we too often try to go it alone with technology. I have worked with and personally used a wide variety of computers and software, both generally and with music and multimedia applications, for over 40 years. This experience translates into a pragmatic approach for client coaching. We find what is needed to make things work well together. We look through the many options to find simple and practical solutions. We problem solve situations when things are not working. In short, we work together to help you better understand how to maximize the features offered by your computer system and its software.
Client Projects
A few examples of how individual clients who use Macintosh and Windows/PC systems were helped, best illustrates the range of desktop coaching possibilities:
- Client 1: coaching to move from an older desktop computer to a laptop, consolidate and better understand e-mail accounts, migrate files from old to new computer, customized new Vista installation, train on changes in Office 2007, and help understanding security and backup options.
- Client 2: coaching to evaluate and simplify work on three separate computers and a cell phone, desktop and laptop; consolidate e-mail accounts; create a system for synchronizing calendars with office assistant; work through network security issues with home financial office and their tech support personnel; backup, consolidate, and check for duplicates of some ten years of files and e-mails; training on Vista and Office 2007 changes; getting several printers, laptops, and cellphone PDA all to talk to each other and to understand how they work; and helping client match the computer potential available with work and productivity needs.
- Client 3: coaching to set up desktop computer to work with a MIDI piano and Finale notation software, general Finale training, training in using iTunes and creating and burning a CD, training with scanning music.
- Client 4: coaching to understand how to use a Yamaha synthesizer as an accompanist for a solo instrument and exploring software options for creating the music accompaniments from Finale and Band-in-a-Box.
- Client 5: coaching to resolve wireless networking performance so computers could be shared between residence and home office; iTunes music issues to normalize sound recordings used in therapy work.
